Wireless Sports Earbuds Under $20 – A Closer Look
The title of this post might seem hard to believe but yes, there are actually Bluetooth wireless sports earbuds for under $20 out there. They might not be able to compete with a thousand dollar pair but you do get what you pay for after all, right? We’ll be taking a closer look at the Lanbailan Wireless Sports Earbuds.
LanBaiLan Wireless Headphones
These earbuds are made by a company called LanBaiLan. They’re usually available for under $20 on Amazon, that price is hard to beat, especially being that they’re wireless.
Some Benefits To Consider
Would I suggest that these are going to sound like a pair of over-ear V-Modas? No, definitely not. Is this a pair of headphones that you could feel comfortable carrying with you and not have to worry too much about if you lose/break them? YES.
That seems to be one of the high points of these earbuds. At the low cost they are being offered at, it allows you to feel a little bit less stressed out about losing on the subway or at a concert.
If you purchased a $200 pair of Oakley sunglasses, you’d wanna guard those more carefully, right? The only exception I can think of would be if you have tons of disposable income stashed somewhere for a rainy day. Most of us don’t have that luxury.
Pros and Cons of the Price
On one hand, cheaper headphones are nice because they’re cheap but on the other side of that coin you do end up sacrificing the performance.
For the Casual Listener
Let’s say that you’re a casual listener who just needs a way to transmit music from your smartphone into your ears and that’s all that matters. If that’s your only goal then by all means a Bluetooth set of buds that’s this affordable is your ticket home.
For the Audiophile
If you care more about sound quality and durability, it’s usually a safer bet to spend the extra money on a more expensive pair.
For Exercise Junkies
This particular headset is built to be sweat-proof, exercise-proof and the design of the actual earpiece makes this easy to believe.
They have the common earbud/sleeve combination but also come with ear hooks to hold them in place while doing rigorous activity like exercise. A lot of people sometimes have the issue of earbuds falling out during excessive movement. This should not be the case due to the ear hooks.
They should fit snugly and stay securely in place.
IPX Level 4
These have an IPX (Ingress Protection) Level of 4 which means that they will hold up even if exposed to dripping sweat during your run or weight lifting. An IPX Level basically measures how a piece of gear will hold up under stress caused by water or dust. The higher the IPX Level, the more durable they will be
Wireless Features
Another feature included with this set is a hands-free calling capability. All you have to do is say either “yes” or “no” to answer or deny a call. This especially comes in handy when you’re listening on the go and don’t want to interrupt your movement to pull out your phone and tap the screen.
Bluetooth Transmission Distance
The Bluetooth signal is powerful enough to transmit while approximately 30 feet away from whatever device your streaming from. Let’s say you’re busy cooking your favorite meal in the kitchen and want to keep your iPhone safe from any food debris or unexpected spills. You can set your phone down in another room, pair your new earbuds and get to work on that special dish.
No Tangled Cord Falling All Over the Place
This is one of my favorite features of having wireless as opposed to wired. Not to mention that these have a behind the neck wire that won’t get tangled or fall into the soup you’re whipping up or exercise you’re doing.
There’s nothing worse than having the left earbud fall out mid-stride. Okay, maybe there are worse things in life but you get what I’m saying.
Battery Strength
The battery life on these seems pretty standard, lasting up to 6 hours on a single charge. They come with a built in rechargeable battery and a micro USB cable to do the charging. It’s amazing how much technology you can fit into such a small device, isn’t it?
Audio Performance Expectations
Now, keep in mind that you shouldn’t expect to hear ultra pristine sound reproduction and that if you do you’ll just be setting yourself up to be let down.
They DO PERFORM WELL for a pair of earbuds that’s under $20 so keep that in mind too. The performance comparison between a cheaper pair and something that’s more expensive ranges pretty widely, which is to be expected.
Earbud Features
As you can see in the picture below, your headphones come equipped with a mic, volume control buttons, and an LED light notification system.
Main Strengths
The main strength of these headphones is the Bluetooth feature being paired with a low-cost but wireless nonetheless, set of buds for you to enjoy. That and the sweat/dust resistant IPX score.
Some Downsides
I would rate the main downside as being a lower sound resolution and less precise representation of a song that begs you to enjoy through a more hi-res speaker or headphone.
Once again, if that doesn’t bother you and you just want to be able to plug in wirelessly and enjoy a movie in the same room as someone reading a book or going for a run and not having to worry about tangled cords or earbuds that fall out, that’s fine too.
Customer Ratings
Out of 824 customer ratings on Amazon they score a pretty decent 3.5 out of 5 stars.
What Are You Looking For?
It all really depends on what you’re looking to get out of them. What works for some might not work for others. My recommendation would be that if you’re in the market for a less expensive pair of wireless earbuds, I would go for it. If you’re looking for something a little more pricey here’s a link to a review I did of the Beats Studio Wireless headphones.

Definitely one of the cheaper sports ear buds with good features. I had bought an ear bud in the past, it kept sliding out of my ears while I ran, bad experience! I run 4 times per week and love a comfortable head set. Thanks for the recommendation Dom.
In what two colors is this ear bud available?
Hi Sara,
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with some earbuds in the past. These ones should be perfect for running.
They are only available in either black or black and a highlighter-color of yellowish green. If you click the links in the review or here you can see the colors and make a decision then. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by and reading through my review,
Dom
Funny I stumbled upon your site right as I’ve been thinking of getting new Bluetooth headphones. I’m the audiophile AND exercise junkie…as far as audio goes, I just want the best quality – so I’d probably need to find something else – especially being a musician constantly mixing songs and needing to play rough mixes in different speakers to make tweaks to anything afterwards. I have a pair of bluetooth headphones that WERE awesome…got them on eBay – they’re neon green – called Jarv…and the battery literally lasted for over 6 months with no charge…so there came a point when I thought they were like some kind of magic headphones. They had awesome sound too…but then eventually they died…and since then, they’re just not working the same – when I charge them, they don’t work properly afterwards…that’s awesome though that these are under $20
Hey Paul,
That is pretty funny how things work like that sometimes. 🙂 I tend to lean more towards audio quality myself too.
The JarvNMotion earbuds look pretty cool. If you’re mixing songs I would recommend some nice over-ear headphones. If you want a wireless pair that’s also great for mixing/mastering and just listening V-Moda is having a huge sale right now on their Crossfade Wireless Over-Ears.
I would take a look at that and see if it’s more up your alley. They’re definitely a little more expensive but they are almost 40% OFF right now for a limited time.
Let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help. Thanks for tuning in,
Dom
Killer! I’ve been in the market for some new earbuds – I didn’t realise that wireless was so common! The worst part of my day is spending half an hour untangling the wires to my headphones on the bus while juggling a coffee at 8am, I think you might have just solved my problem!
Hey Kegan,
That’s always a nuisance for sure. There’s definitely less cord to get tangled and since these are hands-free they should serve their purpose for you!
Thanks for tuning in, don’t forget to use the links provided here when you decide to purchase a pair, I’m glad I could help. 🙂
