Beats Headphone Comparison – Do They Live Up To The Hype?
You’re probably wondering the same thing that I once asked myself. Do Beats headphones actually live up to the hype that they receive from athletes, musicians, radio hosts, and casual fans? Keep reading for a firsthand Beats headphone comparison.
At one point, I coveted anyone that I saw with a pair of Beats sitting on their head or around their neck. Dr. Dre‘s name alone carries a lot of weight, especially if you’re into hip-hop music or culture. If not, you might’ve seen your favorite athletes such as LeBron James or Michael Phelps sporting a sleek, stylish-looking set of Beats Pro headphones. It had to have stirred up at least some curiosity, like it did for me, right?
Solid Bass, Loud Volume, Stylish Pair of Headphones
Taking into account the fact that everyone’s ears are different and therefore acknowledging that we all experience music differently, you might actually prefer the Beats Studios over another pair of less expensive headphones. What I can tell you is that if you like solid bass production, loud volume, and an excellent presentation, you can’t go wrong with Beats.
Unless There’s A Better Option, Of Course
On the flip side, if you’re more of an audio enthusiast, like myself, you’ll likely want to keep looking. I’ve used a couple of different pairs of Beats over the years and while they do offer decent quality of sound, there are definitely better options available, even at a much lower price.
V-Moda Is A Strong Competitor
This is where V-Moda comes into play. The V-Moda Crossfade LP2s review that I posted will give you some more background on those.
Beats Studio Wireless vs V-Moda Crossfade LP2
Here are the 4 main areas we’ll be using to compare these 2 cans against each other:
- durability
- comfort
- sound quality
- difference in price
First, take a look at the difference in durability!
1. Durability:
Beats: minor crack after accidentally sitting on them one time
Crossfade LP2s: Guaranteed military-level durability, plus they have a lifetime replacement warranty
2. Comfort:
Beats: Comfy earpads, although the headband tends to weigh down on your head after a couple of hours
Crossfade LP2s: Extremely comfortable and breathable, even in hot weather or after long periods of use
3. Sound Quality:
Beats: Better than average, especially for someone who’s not that picky
Crossfade LP2s: Bass massages your skull, vocal quality top-notch, captures small details that Beats don’t
4. Price Difference:
Beats: almost double the price of the Crossfade LP2s (eligible for Prime Benefits)
Crossfade LP2s: close to half the price of the Beats (eligible for Prime Benefits)
I would do a comparison on battery life but the V-Moda Crossfade LP2s don’t require any batteries at all.
The Beats do have wireless capabilities and I experienced a slight sacrifice in the depth of audio playback when using the Bluetooth settings.
After Side-By-Side Comparison
Overall, I think that the Crossfade LP2s out-perform the Beats Studio Wireless and are offered at a much lower price. The Beats are a quality set of headphones but since we’re comparing the two, my choice would be the Crossfades.
If You Have The Money, I Would Buy A Pair
If you do want to spend the money on a pair, you’re probably going to want either the on-ear or over-ear models to get the full listening experience.
The Beats Studio Wireless headphones are more expensive but if you have the money to spend and are an independent tester of products for comparison’s sake, you’ll definitely enjoy the experience.

I have been looking into getting a good set of headphones for quite some time now. I am a little hard of hearing, so quality is most important to me. Do you know if Beats also work with the TV? I was hoping to find a pair of headphones that I could use while watching TV, as well as using for music. I have not been able to find anything like this yet. Am I stuck with two pairs of headphones?
Hey Matt’s Mom,
So depending on what kind of tv you have there are a couple different options.
If you have a tv with Bluetooth capabilites you should be able to pair wireless headphones, like the Beats Studio, to your tv. These Beats are good quality and can be used either wirelessly or wired, which is a nice feature.
If not, the easiest option would be a Bluetooth Transmitter, found here http://amzn.to/2fV4Q39
With these, all you do is plug the transmitter into your tv, charge the transmitter, pair it wirelessly with your headphones and you’re ready to watch and listen without disturbing anyone else. 🙂
If you have anymore questions you need answered let me know, I’d be happy to help.
I’m confident you’ll find what you’re looking for.
I don’t ever use headsets myself but I know others who use Beats and really like them, I’ve heard a lot of good things about them & would recommend others to this site who are interested in finding out more about them. you definitely have plenty of info to offer.
Thanks Rick, if you could send anyone you know who’s looking for more info on Beats or other headphones over here that would be much appreciated. I always do my best to help anyone who’s curious about learning more in this realm of things.
great review, very detailed. I think I may have to add these to my christmas wish list, i can use these at work to drown out the annoying distractions around me lol. I dont know anyone personally that has these, so your review has been very helpful. I may have to recommend to others as well.
Thanks Jessica, they would be good for drowning out distractions for sure, and amplifying your listening experience.
