The 10 Best True Wireless Earbuds of 2018

The 10 Best True Wireless Earbuds

Technology is moving in the direction of being completely wireless now more than ever. Everything from smart speakers to headphones have begun to jump on the wireless wave.

It can add a ton of convenience to our lives but doesn’t come without it’s downsides. The 10 Best True Wireless Earbuds of 2018 are a combination of the most feature-packed, premium sound quality-producing, in-ear headphones that you can find today.

We did our best to give you a good list of options that weigh price with overall quality. They share a lot of the same features, but also have some distinct differences. Read the section below to see how we decided which ones to include!

The 10 Best True Wireless Earbuds of 2018

Here are some of the main features we used to decide which earbuds to include:

  • Sound/Comfort Customization
  • Audio Transparency
  • IPX Rating vs. No Official IPX Rating
  • Fitness Tracking vs. No Fitness Tracking
  • Noise-cancelling vs. Noise-Isolating

If you aren’t familiar with some of those terms, don’t worry – it will be explained in detail. One thing they all have in common is that they ALL include a carrying case and most of them include a portable charging case (in case they die while you’re out and about).

If you need a brief refresher on what to look for before making your decision, take a quick look at this headphone buying guide before you read through this list. If you already know what features you can and can’t live without let’s get right into it!

Here’s our list of the 10 Best:

  1. JAM Ultra Truly Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds
  2. Bragi H-1000 The Headphone
  3. Rowkin Bit Stereo True Wireless In-Ear Headphones
  4. Samsung Gear IconX (2018 Edition)
  5. Sony WF1000X/BM1 Premium Noise-Cancelling Headphones
  6. Jaybird Run True Wireless Headphones
  7. Sol Republic Amps Air Totally Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds
  8. B&O Play E8 Premium Truly Wireless Bluetooth Earphones
  9. Bragi The Dash Pro With Alexa
  10. Jabra Elite Sport True Wireless Fitness Earbuds

Some of the earbud models we chose will have water-resistant/water-proof features. This is described as an IPX rating. You can read all about it here, if you’re not familiar with the term.

Every single earbud we included here will have a good mixture of comfort, customization, battery life, be completely wireless, and even some additional features on top of all that.

If you see a pair that catches your eye on the list, feel free to click the name and you’ll be taken directly to that specific pair.

Are These The Right Fit For You?

I would highly recommend the JAM Ultra Truly Wireless earbuds to you if you don’t want to spend too much – but you want the extra convenience and bonus features of a completely wire-free sonic experience. If you don’t absolutely need the best sound quality that money can buy, these would be right up your alley.

Also, these are a great entry-level pair of ‘buds to start down the path of cutting (not literally) all the wires out of your life. The only reason I wouldn’t recommend these to you, is if you want to spend some extra dough for bells and whistles like internal storage, fitness tracking, etc. (In which case, you’ll want to keep scrolling.)

Cons

Are These The Right Fit For You?

The Bragi H-1000 The Headphone offer quite a few features that are hard to pass on (at least without careful consideration). You’ll get a pretty wide range of features that make these a tough competitor to beat.

All in all, it really comes down to their above average battery life, Audio Transparency, reasonable price, and overall performance. They check almost all the boxes for what are becoming the industry standards in this style of headphones.

I would highly recommend these if you’re ready to take the dive into becoming completely wire-free – and all the features we went over check all your personal boxes.

If all that sounds good, go ahead and use the button below to see current pricing info, star ratings, and additional customer reviews.

Prices may vary – for current price, use the button below.

Pros

  • Best true wireless earbud at this price point
  • The Bluetooth 4.2 is a step up for a better wireless connection
  • Extremely compact and discreet
  • The portable charging case will extend the shorter battery life
  • An IPX5 rating means you can take these out in the rain (or spray with water from any direction) and they’ll still work perfectly fine
  • Great option for casual listening, working out, and watching videos

Cons

  • Battery life won’t last as long as some of the other models on this list
  • You’ll notice them in your ears after an hour or two of listening (some minor discomfort)

Are These The Right Fit For You?

The Rowkin Bit Stereo True Wireless headphones would be a great fit for you if you like a more sleek, compact, and discreet-looking earbud. Their IPX5 rating is in the upper echelon of other models with water-proof features on this list (but offered at a much lower price).

Your call quality will be more precise and clear due to the noise-reduction and echo-cancellation features built into the mic. You get quite a bit of wiggle room to choose if you want to listen with one or both earbuds and the customer reviews really speak for themselves.

The only reason I wouldn’t recommend these to you, is if the sound quality matters more than anything else. (If that’s the case for you, keep reading for more options.)

If you’re satisfied with the review video above and all the other features we’ve covered, click the button below to get more info and/or claim your pair.

  • Built-in fitness tracking is perfect if you need extra motivation to reach your goals
  • The Audio Transparency feature is great if you want to be aware of your surroundings
  • Touch pad controls are easy to navigate and make the overall design more sleek and stylish
  • Decent battery life for a truly wireless earbud

Cons

  • Only an IPX2 rating (sweat-proof, not water-proof)
  • Clear sound but not a lot of bass (important if you listen to mostly bass-heavy music)

Are These The Right Fit For You?

The Samsung Gear IconX (2018 Edition) also made our Best Wireless Earbuds for Working Out list – as the clear winner. They’re a super solid pair of truly wire-free ‘buds with tons of bonus features to push you over the edge. Their lower IPX rating is their main downside. If you’re looking for something that you plan on using for things that won’t expose you to too much moisture, these would be perfect.

With 4 GB of internal storage (a feature shared by only a few others here) you can keep up to 1,000 songs stored directly in your ‘buds. It might not seem like a very important feature but it is. Especially at the gym, you won’t have to carry your mini laptop (smartphone) on an annoying armband or in your pocket. Just upload your favorite workout jams and listen away.

7 hours of phone-free, wire-free listening isn’t too bad at all. All this, plus the additional portable charging time make the Gear IconX a strong option to consider.

If that sounds like exactly what you’re looking for, use the button below for current pricing info, star ratings, and more customer reviews.

Cons

  • No internal MP3 storage
  • No fitness tracking capabilites (if you’re looking for an active-use pair)

Are These The Right Fit For You?

The Sony WF-1000X is Sony’s first-ever truly wireless earbud model. There might be a few kinks that still need to be worked out but that applies to pretty much every single piece of technology, right? These would be a great fit for you if you like the ability to not only personally control your audio settings, but also use Active Noise-Cancelling technology to further enhance your listening experience.

Battery life is one of the most important aspects of this style of headphones and the WF-1000X perform about average in that area. In case you do run out of battery life, make sure to bring your portable charging case. If you’re someone who listens to podcasts all day while you’re at work, you can have your case stored away in your backpack or purse. When your ‘buds finally die (after 3 full hours) – just pull out your charging case, let them juice up, and keep listening to JRE, or Serial, or whatever podcast you’re into.

These would make for a great at-work, at-home, or walk-around headphone. You can see additional customer reviews, pricing info, and star ratings if you click the button below

  • The Jaybird App helps you find a lost earbud (plus you can create a personalized soundscape)
  • Multiple included ear sleeve sizes to choose from and make sure they stay in place

Cons

  • No official IPX rating (but they’re still water-resistant under light conditions)
  • No internal MP3 storage
  • A little bit overpriced for what you get

Are These The Right Fit For You?

The Jaybird Run True Wireless headphones might be the perfect fit for you. Did the review video convince you that these are exactly what you’re looking for? I probably wouldn’t recommend these if you’re searching for a water-proof/workout-specific earbud.

On the other hand, if you just need to get rid of some of the cords in your life – and you love listening to music all day, you should seriously consider these. Choose your pick of color, pair them up with your phone, and jam out. The customer reviews have been mostly positive so far, and I’m sure your experience will be very similar.

  • Strong bass response (great for bass-heads, fans of EDM/Hip-Hop)
  • Designed to keep unwanted noise out (without draining battery life with Active Noise-Cancelling)

Cons

  • Minor lag (when watching movies/Netflix)
  • Battery life isn’t impressive for a model at this price point

Are These The Right Fit For You?

Sol Republic was one of the earlier adopters of this style of headphone. Being among the first doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re still in first place, but the Sol Republic Amps Air Totally Wireless have still proven themselves as a valid option.

For at-home use with your laptop or TV, you might experience some slight lag issues. When you’re using these with your phone for streaming music, the lag won’t be an issue. These are recommended for fans of a bass-heavy sound profile and also if you don’t need your pair of ‘buds to last all day. They’ll survive your average workout, the full length of a movie, and even part of a road trip.

In case you do need more battery life out of them, you can always bring the portable charging case and recharge them on the go. If both your ‘buds AND phone happen to die – don’t worry, you can charge them both without any wires whatsoever. Not all of the portable charging cases have an external port for smartphones, so it’s definitely another strong point of this model.

If everything we just covered sounds like the pair of ‘buds that will make your life easier, click the button below for more info.

Cons

  • Touch pad controls will take some getting used to
  • Single charge battery life could be better

Are These The Right Fit For You?

The B&O Play E8 Premium Truly Wireless earphones aren’t for everyone. They’re not exactly giving them away, is what I mean. They were specifically modeled after some of B&Os earlier models – but with major improvements. If you’re someone who really cares about hearing the best audio quality possible, you’ll want to really consider taking a closer look at these.

If you have some extra cash laying around somewhere, by all means give these a try. If you need a better balance of features (that comes with a lower price tag), I would recommend going with one of the other models on this list.

Once again, for a not only truly wireless, but also a truly premium earbud experience that you can take with you wherever you choose – definitely check these out. I’d recommend these for fans of previous B&O headphone models, audio quality fanatics, and a quality pair of ‘buds that you won’t use for working out.

If that sounds like everything you hoped for, click the button below to see current pricing info, customer reviews, and star ratings.

The 10 Best True Wireless Earbuds

  • 4 different battery life indication colors (know how much you have left)
  • 4 GB of internal storage for up to 1,000 of your favorite songs
  • IPX7 waterproof rating (fully submerged in 3 ft. of water)
  • Includes automatic fitness tracking (to keep track of your progress)

  • Design features Passive Noise Isolation
  • Use the Audio Transparency feature to control ambient noise (like traffic, crowded areas, at the gym)
  • Weight: 5 oz.
  • Dimensions: 2.8 x 1 x 2 in.

You can see more of the features in detail by watching the video below:

Prices may vary – for current price, use the button below.

Pros

  • The 4 GB of internal storage allows you to listen wire and device-free
  • IPX7 rating will protect your earbuds against heavy water exposure (especially important if you need a new pair for working out or other outside use)
  • Great single charge battery life
  • Fitness tracking will keep you motivated to reach your goals (or just keep track of your progress)
  • The Audio Transparency feature works hand-in-hand with the IPX rating to make these great for active use (biking alongside a road or running next to traffic)
  • Only model on this list that has a foreign language translation feature (perfect for those of you that like to travel but you also want to know what’s being said)
  • ZERO latency when watching videos

Cons

  • Shares a lot of the same features as the Bragi H-1000 (but at a much higher price)
  • The audio quality isn’t as good as some of the less-expensive models (like the B&O Play E8)
  • Not the best option for audiophiles

Are These The Right Fit For You?

The Bragi The Dash Pro With Alexa have quite a bit to offer. In a market that’s becoming more and more saturated with gear that looks similar but doesn’t perform as well – you’ll want to note these as a top choice. I don’t really need to convince you of how well they perform since they honestly speak for themselves.

You probably noticed the longer list of pros compared to some of the other options listed here. That’s because Bragi The Dash Pro tried their best to cross every “t” and dot every “i”. They wanted to give us as little to complain about, or want for, as possible – and they almost succeeded.

The main downside for this pair of ‘buds is the price they’re being offered at. Having a fitness tracker, IPX7 rating, 4 GB of internal storage, and Audio Transparency is all great (unless it gets so expensive that it becomes less and less worth it).

If you’ve already owned a pair of truly wireless ‘buds and you want an upgrade, definitely consider these. For a higher-end, entry-level pair, I’d recommend starting with the Bragi H-1000s.

If these look too irresistible but you need some more information – use the button below to see more customer reviews, star ratings, and pricing info.

The 10 Best True Wireless Earbuds

And The Winner Is…

  • Dimensions: 1.75 x 4.72 x 7.09 in.

To see an in-depth breakdown of our winner, take a look at the video below:

Prices may vary – for current price, use the button below.

Pros

  • An IP67 rating allows you to put these ‘buds through a lot of punishment without ruining their performance
  • You have 2 different options to choose from – a 3 hr. and 4.5 hr. battery life (depending on your budget)
  • The Noise-Cancellation feature is useful in more than one situation
  • The Quick Charge feature is super convenient for those of us who tend to forget to charge our audio gear (but we can’t live without music for very long)
  • The Jabra Sport Life App will help you stay on track and meet your fitness goals
  • The portable charging case allows for 2 extra full charges – no cords attached
  • These can be used for almost any workout you choose (except swimming) as well as at-home listening or video-watching
  • These features are nearly impossible to find in a similar model in the same price range

Cons

Are These The Right Fit For You?

When it came time to find specific downsides for the Jabra Elite Sport Fitness earbuds, it was pretty tough to spot very many. While they don’t perform at the same level (sound-wise) as some of the more expensive pairs – they are the best all-around truly wireless earbuds.

If you’re looking for something that you can travel with, run with, watch Netflix with, play music from your phone, and use to block out the noise around you, they score the highest rating.

If all those features are exactly what you need to jump on the truly wireless wave of audio tech gear, these would be the best place to start.

Why Are They The Clear Winner? – Best of Both Worlds

It was hard to pick a clear winner between the Bragi The Dash With Alexa and the Jabra Elite Sport Earbuds. In the end it came down to comparing the pros and cons of each.

The Bragi The Dash has a lot of extra features that make it seem like the best option. Compared to the Jabra Elite Sport earbuds, the price difference was the final deciding factor.

Both pairs of ‘buds are quality, feature-studded, and have each gotten tons of overwhelmingly positive feedback. When it comes to choosing between the two, I’d recommend the Jabra Elite Sport. They’re the best option out of the bunch, all things considered.

  1. Very well written post on earbuds and beautiful chosen earbuds you recommend, I know nothing about earbuds so your article has been a education for me to understand this product much better.

I have read headphones are better than earbuds, what is your opinion on this? Are they just trying to sell headphones or are they being honest headphones are a better buy for your money?

    1. Thanks Jeffrey, I’m glad you enjoyed learning about them!

Headphones and earbuds ultimately have the same purpose – to play music in your ears. I wouldn’t say one is necessarily better than the other.

They just have different uses and purposes. A nice pair of earbuds works much better for running and other intense physical movement.

For the best sound quality and personal music listening experience – headphones would be the best.

It’s really a matter of what and where you plan on using your headphones/earbuds for. You might enjoy taking a look at our headphone buying guide to give you a better idea.

Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate your question. 🙂

  2. The Sony WF-1000X seems like a great option for me! I liked the Samsung Gear IconX (2018 Edition) but I’m a bass freak, so it probably wouldn’t be the best bet for me seeing as you said it lacks in bass quality.

Thanks so much for helping me pick out the best true wireless earbuds for me by writing this article! Cheers!

    1. The Sony WF-1000X are an awesome pair of true wireless earbuds – plus they have noise cancelling which is an added bonus feature

I agree, the Samsung Gear IconX is another great pair but I usually tend to lean towards earbuds/headphones that can produce a strong low end bass response

I’m glad you found this list helpful, I hope you enjoy the WF-1000X when you decide to grab a pair! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

  3. Thank you so much for this list!
I been looking into buying some wireless earbuds but since they are quite new i wasn’t sure where to start.
My brother has the Bragi H-1000 and really likes them, but to be honest I want to give another brand a try 😀
I think i’m going to go with the Jabra elite, they sound like a magnificent product and so far they might be the best i have learned about, so thank you for helping me choose !!

    1. You’re welcome Arlet, I think a lot of people can relate to not knowing where to start when it comes to choosing a pair of true wireless earbuds

I have brothers too – it can be fun to get different pairs of earbuds and try each other’s out to see which ones you like better. (Sharing is caring, right?)

You’ll be more than happy with the Jabra Elite Sport, the customer reviews speak for themselves. Plus, it’s never a bad thing to be ahead of the curve when it comes to newer technology. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by, I’m happy to hear that you found this Top 10 helpful!
